Gary Skinner
Gary Skinner, MSW, LCSW is the Director of Social Work for the Division of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (DJJDP). He has been in this position, leading the team of social workers in the Youth Development Centers (YDC), for six years. In this role, he trains and consults with the case managers and social workers serving youth across North Carolina. Social workers assist the youth and families in staying connected while the youth are in the YDC (typically for 13 -14 months) and work with various resources and providers to make plans for successful transitions back to their home community.
Prior to coming to DJJDP in 2017, Gary served as Assistant Director and then Executive Director of Catholic Charities for the eastern half of NC for 15 years. His initial clinical training and practice was in family therapy, providing Family Preservation services in Vance Co. (Henderson) and surrounding communities. He was also an Eckerd Camp counselor and supervisor for seven years before obtaining his MSW.
