Donna Salgado
Donna Salgado is a certified Community Health Worker and Peer Support Specialist in NC. She’s overcome teen pregnancy, physical, sexual, and emotional abuse, experienced incarceration, substance use, homelessness, and mental health challenges. Ms. Salgado has sustained her life in recovery for the past 3 1/2 years. After achieving her Peer Support certification in April of 2022, she began using the knowledge gained from her 25-year struggle with addiction and mental health as a survival guide to help others facing similar challenges. Donna frequently speaks at Hope Recovery in Morehead City, has served on the board at Reviving Lives Ministries, and worked with sex trafficking survivors at a safe house in Craven County. Ms. Salgado worked at RHA Behavioral Health Services helping adults, who would otherwise spend their lives in facilities, gain the confidence needed to live in the community. She is currently employed by Trillium Health Resource in the STAR program helping individuals transition from incarceration to the community. Donna has compassion, understanding, and firsthand knowledge of the challenges faced by justice-involved individuals. Donna is a mother of three, grandmother of four, and currently lives in New Bern with her puppy Ruckus. She now lives her life to the fullest, doesn’t take one day for granted, and is transparent and honest about her past without shame and guilt. She feels fortunate to be one of the few who live to share their experience of strength and hope with others still living in dark places. In her recovery journey, Donna found a true passion for advocating and fighting for the ones who can’t always fight for themselves.
